Highlights: Plymouth, ranked #4 in District 3, edged out Marion, ranked #2 in District 4, 3-2 in a highly competitive contest. After 2S Aubrey Vervynckt and 3S Bella Kain both won their matches against quality opponents in straight sets, Plymouth found itself up 2-1 with both doubles courts playing in the third set.
1D Taylor Delp-Ellie Jones were able to pull out a 6-3 third set to secure the team win, while 2D Annie Plothow-Cassidy Riddle battled hard, but lost 6-4 in the third set for the final team total. Overall, the young Pilgrims continue to improve and close out this week with their sixth consecutive dual match win.
JV singles winners for the Pilgrims tonight were Kaylynn Bunton, Alexxa Howard, Tallie Hundt, and Lena Houin. JV doubles winners were Morgan Langfeldt-Olivia Newcomb, Corinne Rhodes-Maddy Thangam, Emma Rozycki-Emma Warren, and Kiley Pitts-Niki Melendez.
Fun Fact: All four coaches tonight, Plymouth Head Coach Brad Haeck, Plymouth Assistant Coach Kim Riddle, Marion Head Coach Doug Porter, and Marion Assistant Coach Deb Hendricks, all played collegiate tennis at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana. In fact, Coach Riddle and Coach Hendricks were college teammates!
Plymouth will take the weekend off before heading to Goshen on Tuesday 5/4/21 for a 5:30PM match. Go Big Red!
