The IHSAA Cross Country Sectionals were held around the State of Indiana on Saturday. Both the girls and boys cross country teams participated in the Manchester High School Sectional. It was a warm and breezy day in North Manchester.
The girls race was held first as the top five scoring teams would qualify to move on to the IHSAA Regional next Saturday at Logansport. The Pilgrims were missing three of their five top runners because of COVID-19 tracking. But the remaining Pilgrim runners persevered. Freshman Sophie Wray was the first Pilgrim to cross the line. She finished in 11th place over the 5K distance in a time of 20:56.5. Fatima Ramirez finished 21st, Addie Kingston finished 34th, Ella Hissong finished 41st, and Caitrin Bradley finished 42nd. The Lady Pilgrims finished in 5th place as a team scoring 143 points qualifying them for the Regional next Saturday.
The Pilgrim boys finished in 3rd place scoring 72 points. Nolan Bales was the first Pilgrim to cross the line in 9th place in a time of 17:19.4. Following Bales across the line were teammates Jonah Howard (11th), Trey Hall (13th), Brian Vegso (18th), and Coby Walters (21st).
Congratulations to both teams for qualifying for the next step in the tournament next Saturday at Logansport High School. The first race at LHS will begin at 10:30 AM.
