Pilgrims News · ROCKIE SOCCER COMPETES AT SOUTH BEND ST JOE SHOOT-OUT

Rockie Soccer is alive and well in Plymouth!  The Rockies took their show on the road to a tough atmosphere on Saturday to face off against highly rated South Bend St. Joe and Mishawaka Marian.

In Game 1 on the day, the Rockies tied 2A #18 ranked St. Joe 1-1.  In Game 2, the Rockies topped 2A #1 ranked Mishawaka Marian 2-1.

In Game 1 vs. St. Joe, the Rockies would open the scoring in the first half with a goal from Ariel Romero.  Romero received a crossing pass from teammate Jose Rosas.  St. Joe would later tie the contest.

The Rockies would continue to pepper the St. Joe goalie throughout the contest.  Selvin Pagoada fired six shots on goal while Romero would add four more shots in the second half but none found the back of the net as the teams battled to a tie.

The Rockies took a big hit before the start of Game 2 as senior starter Adrian Cardona would not be available for the contest.  Marian scored the first goal of the non-conference contest.  But just before halftime, Pagoada would tie the contest to knot it at 1-1.

The second half was very tightly contested.  Pagoada would once again be the difference maker as he would score on an unassisted goal.  The Rockies then held on to down the #1 ranked 2A team in the State.

The tie and win keeps the Rockies undefeated on the season as the results move them to 8-0-1 this year.  Next up for the Rockies is a date at Culver Academy on Tuesday.  JV start time is set for 5:30 followed by the varsity contest.

The JV Rockies went 2-0 on the day.  They defeated St. Joe in game one on the day 4-1.  Taby Figueroa, Christian Figueroa, Alan Pena, and an Own Goal would power the young Rockies to the victory.  In game two, the Rockies downed Marian 1-0.  Ashton Artrip found the back of the net for the lone goal of the game in the second half.  The victory keeps the JV Rockies undefeated.
