The Plymouth Pilgrim Boys Basketball team opened the home portion of their 2019-2020 season Saturday night at The Rock. The Pilgrims fell to New Prairie 46-29.
The Pilgrims lead 11-9 in the first quarter but fell behind in the middle of the second quarter and trailed 24-16 at halftime. The Pilgrims fell behind by double digits 30-18 with 2:30 remaining in the third quarter. But a 4-0 run by the Pilgrims got the New Prairie lead back to single digits at 30-22 with less than two minutes remaining in the quarter.
But that was as close as the Pilgrims got the rest of the game as the Cougars closed the quarter with an 8-0 run to take a 38-22 lead into the fourth quarter. New Prairie outscored the Pilgrims 8-7 during the final eight minutes.
Junior Jake Reichard lead the Pilgrim attack with 15 points. Reichard also lead the Pilgrim rebounders with six and also contributed four steals. Senior Brady Hissong added seven points and four rebounds.
The loss drops the Pilgrims to 0-2 on the year. Next up for the Pilgrims is a trip to Bourbon Tuesday to take on county rival Triton. JV start time is scheduled for 6:00.
The JV Pilgrims picked up their second win of the year in the preliminary contest Saturday night 44-42 over New Prairie. The Pilgrims trailed through much of the contest but took the lead early in the fourth quarter before weathering a Cougar charge late in the game.
Freshman Easton Strain lead the JV Pilgrims in scoring with 19 points. Strain also grabbed six rebounds. Seth Mills contributed 14 points. Tanner Feece grabbed five rebounds and added four steals. Davis Wray passed for four assists.
The win moves the JV Pilgrims to 2-0 on the young season.
