Pilgrims News · PILGRIMS OPEN BOYS BASKETBALL CAMPAIGN TONIGHT

The Plymouth Pilgrim Basketball team will open their 109th season tonight when they travel to John Glenn to take on the Falcons.  In their 109 seasons of playing basketball, the Pilgrims have an overall record of 1463 wins while dropping 1033 games.  They do have one tie in their history.

John Glenn High School is a consolidation of Walkerton High School, Tyner High School, North Liberty High School, and Greene Township High School.  Historically the Pilgrims went 1-1 against Walkerton, they went 7-0 against Tyner, the Pilgrims went 7-1 vs Tyner, and they never played Greene Twp.

The Pilgrims are currently 37-8 against Glenn since their consolidation back in 1966.  Last year the Pilgrims downed Glenn in the opener for both teams at The Rock 58-52.  The Pilgrims are currently on a nine game winning streak vs the Falcons.  The last time Glenn defeated the Pilgrims was during the 2009-2010 season.  The final score at The Aerie was 64-46.

The Pilgrims are coached by veteran mentor Ryan Bales.  Bales is starting his 9th year at Plymouth and 15th year overall as a head coach.  Bales coached at Caston one year before moving to his Alma-mater North Judson the following year.  Bales came to Plymouth in 2012.  He is 122-67 while coaching the Pilgrims, and he is 206-119 overall.

Returning to lead the Pilgrims this year is junior guard Jake Reichard.  Reichard is the returning leading scorer for the Pilgrims as he dropped 286 points last year on his opponents.  Other returning Pilgrims include senior guard Joe Barron, senior guard Adam Hunter, senior forward Joe Styers, and junior guard Ivan Winkle.  Moving up from the JV Pilgrim team include senior Dylan Gamble, senior Brady Hissong, senior Grant Houin, and junior Owen Yoder.

Not only does the coaching staff include a veteran Head Coach in Ryan Bales, the Pilgrims also return 1985 Plymouth graduate Tony Plothow as a Varsity Assistsnt coach.  1998 Plymouth graduate Brian Wray returns as the Pilgrim JV Coach.  He is assisted by 1974 Plymouth graduate Bobby Girten.  New to the staff this year is Varsity Assistant Coach Byron Faulstich.  Faulstich played on the 2007 Pilgrim State Championship team.  He comes to the Pilgrim staff after teaching and coaching at Knox.

JV tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 tonight at Walkerton.  The game will be broadcast on AM1050 WTCA and MAX98.3.
