The Plymouth Rockie Football team has an assignment come Friday night.  They will be playing for an IHSAA Sectional Championship as they will be facing the New Prairie Cougars.  New Prairie was rated #1 in 4A Football throughout most of the 2019 season.  A Week 9 loss to 5A Elkhart Central pushed them out of the top spot and they finished #4 in the final 4A poll.

New Prairie will come into the Sectional Championship game with a record of 10-1.  Big wins during their campaign included contests over Mishawaka 28-27, Penn 21-17, and South Bend St. Joe 55-28.  Their only loss came at Elkhart Central 31-28 to the hands of the Blue Blazers.

New Prairie is coached by veteran coach Russ Radtke.  He is in his 43rd year as a head football coach in Indiana and his 8th year at New Prairie.  Other stops included North Judson and Griffith.  He is the 2nd leading football coach in active wins with 367.  He is 77-19 as coach of New Prairie.

New Prairie comes in this week ranked #1 in the Sagarin Ratings.  They have a rating of 84.76 and they have played the 69th strongest schedule in the state.  They are ranked 22nd overall this week in Indiana High School Football.  Their ratings are based on a mathematical formula along with strength of schedule and by how much a team defeats their opponent each week.

The Rockies are in their first Sectional Championship game since the 2015 season.  The Rockies hosted and defeated Northwood 37-29 four years ago.

The 2019 Rockies enter Friday night’s Sectional Championship game with a 9-2 record.  Quality wins for the Rockies this year include victories over Warsaw 24-19, Concord 27-23, and South Bend St. Joe 28-12.  Their losses came at the hands of #2 rated East Noble 34-31 during Week 1 and Northwood 40-20 during Week 9.

Rockie Coach John Barron is in his 16th year leading the Rockies.  He has a career record of 124-53.

The Rockies enter the contest ranked #11 in the AP Media Poll and the IFCA Coach’s Poll.  They are ranked #9 in the most recent 4A Sagarin Rating’s Poll this week after their win over St. Joe at The Rockpile last week.  They have a rating of 72.73 and have played the 75th strongest schedule in the state so far this year.  They are currently ranked 53rd in the state in the overall Sagarin Rating Poll.

Kickoff Friday night at New Prairie is set for 7:30 PM (EST).  The temperature for kickoff is expected to be hovering around 30 degrees so come prepared for some HOT sectional football action Friday night!
