The Art Thomas Big Red Open is BIG once again
On Friday August 2, 2019, over 150 golfers and volunteers ascended on beautiful Pretty Lake Golf Club. The goal of the gathering was simple – connection, camaraderie and cause.
Connection & Camaraderie – Numerous PHS alumni as well as avid PHS supporters joined together to breathe new life into the Art Thomas Big Red Open. One of the changes to the rebrand included a 9 hole Mini Red in the morning. Five foursomes took advantage of the quick play and amazing morning temps to launch the inaugural Mini Red. In the afternoon, 38 foursomes took to the course bathed in beautiful sunshine and perfect August afternoon temperatures. The BIG could finally be put back into the Art Thomas Big Red Open once again.
Cause – This was one of the first major fundraisers attempted by the ENTIRE PHS coaching staff and student athletes. The PHS student athletes and members of PHS coaching staff volunteered their time to not only seek out hole sponsors but also staff the event as people arrived. Student Athletes served on the bag drop team. Coaches helped with registration, hole supervision, and set up/tear down. It truly was a team effort.
The fundraising effort totals are still not finalized as there are still some dollars yet to collect and invoices to be paid. We will update everyone on the final total at a later date, but for now it is very clear that event was a huge success in all ways (connection, camaraderie and cause). Special thanks goes out to Mr. Tim Thomas for driving up from Florida to serve as the family representative for Art Thomas Big Red Open. We look forward to growing and improving the event next year.
Thank you to everyone who gave so generously and contributed to an amazing day!
