Bill Nixon Field located in Centennial Park hosted one of the two Northern IHSAA Baseball Semi States Saturday afternoon. The 1A and 4A games were held in Plymouth. The winners of each game will head to the State Finals scheduled for Monday and Tuesday next week at Victory Field in Indianapolis.
Washington Township and Rossville played in the 1A game Saturday. Washington Township defeated Rossville 13-8. The win is a memorable one for Washington Township as it will mark the first time they have played in a Baseball State Final in Indianapolis. Washington Township is a school of 271 students. It is located directly east of Valparaiso on State Road 2.
Hamilton Southeastern and Mishawaka battled in the 4A Semi State contest. It was a tight game throughout. The HSE pitcher dominated Mishawaka through his stint on the mound. HSE had built up a 4-0 lead through 6 1/2 innings.
But the dominating HSE pitcher was reaching his pitch limit and he was visibly tired. Enter a new pitcher and enter the Mishawaka grit that we had witnessed through the Plymouth Sectional from two weeks earlier. The Cavemen had 14 seniors on their roster and they were not going to give up the ship easily.
Mishawaka had shortened the HSE lead to 4-2 with the tying runs on base. But HSE was able to induce the third out and Mishawaka fell to the Royals 4-2.
Hamilton Southeastern is part of the largest school corporation in the State of Indiana. Their corporation also includes Fishers High School. Ironically Fishers Baseball played in the Plymouth Baseball Semi State last year. The Tigers went on to win the 2018 4A State Championship.
Hamilton Southeastern has an enrollment of 3274 students. It is located in Fishers.
Both the 1A and 4A State Title games will be played Monday, 6/17/19 at Victory Field in downtown Indianapolis. Washington Township will battle University High School located in Indianapolis at 5:30 next Monday. Hamilton Southeastern will play Columbus East at 8:00 Monday night for the 4A Title.
