Jon Hutton was approved by the Plymouth School Board Tuesday night as the new Head Volleyball Coach for the Pilgrims. Hutton is currently a teacher at Tippecanoe Valley High School. He will remain in that job while heading up the Pilgrim Volleyball program. Hutton went through an extensive process that included two separate interviews with the administration at Plymouth High School.
Hutton grew up in Michigan but started his teaching and coaching career in Houston, TX. After three years there, he headed back to his home state of Michigan where he earned a teaching job and coached volleyball at the JV level. He got married and moved to the Warsaw, IN area as he got a teaching and volleyball coaching job at Tippy Valley. After five years as the JV coach at Tippy Valley, he became the head coach for the next eight years.
He left high school coaching for a period of time to spend more time with his growing family. He did remain in contact with the sport as he coached at the club level and officiated the sport.
With his family now in his school, he decided to get back into coaching. He was back coaching the JV level this past year at Tippy Valley. In fact his Vikings won our Plymouth JV Invitational tourney this past year.
Coach Hutton is excited to get to meet his volleyball prospects for the 2019 season. His goal for the team includes training athletes that can compete at their highest levels. He wants to establish his training practices and procedures for his summer program so the girls will be ready to compete when school opens this fall.
