Wow, what a difference a week makes!  Last week the Pilgrims defeated their first round sectional opponent in the regular season game 56-34.  Six nights later the Pilgrims battled the RedHawks again in each of their first round sectional game.  The Pilgrims outscored Goshen 23-11 in the fourth quarter and won 50-43.

But it was not easy.  Both teams started slowly.  The Pilgrims jumped out to a 7-0 lead three minutes into the game before Goshen called a needed time out.  The Pilgrims actually lead 9-0 before Goshen got on the board.  In fact Goshen went on a 10-0 run before the Pilgrims hit the last two buckets of the half to take a 13-10 lead into the locker room.

Behind the bombing of 6-4 senior Bryant Robinson who finished the night with 24 points, Goshen built a five point lead heading into the fourth and final quarter.  The winner would move on in sectional play while loser would be packing the uniforms away until next season.  Robinson dropped eight of the 22 points Goshen would score on the Pilgrims in the third quarter.

Kendall Himes was the only spark the Pilgrims had during that third quarter run by Goshen.  Kendall hit for six of the 14 points scored by the Pilgrims.

Sophomore Jake Reichard and senior Clay Hilliard woke the Pilgrim offense up in the fourth quarter.  Jake scored 10 of his team high 18 points in the decisive quarter while Clay dropped seven of his 12 point effort in the final period.  The Pilgrim defense also caused four crucial Goshen turnovers during the final eight minutes of play.

Along with his 18 points, Jake also had four rebounds and three assists.  Senior Cole Filson hauled down five rebounds to spark the Pilgrim effort on the boards.

The win moves the Pilgrims to 15-8 on the year.  Next up is the sectional semi finals Friday night as they will battle Northridge.  The Raiders defeated Concord in the first game Wednesday night 57-42.  The Pilgrims fell to Northridge during the regular season 62-59 at Northridge back at the end of January.  Tip off Friday night at Northside Gym will be approximately 7:45.  The first game Friday night will feature Elkhart Central against Warsaw.  If you cannot attend sectional action Friday night, AM1050 WTCA will cover the action for you.
