The Plymouth Pilgrim Basketball team put an exclamation mark on the end of their season Thursday night at The Rock as they dumped NLC opponent Goshen 58-36. The Pilgrim defense was on top of their game as they held Goshen to eight first half points.
The Pilgrim defense held Goshen to a 24% shooting percentage from the field in the first half. They also outrebounded Goshen 16-9. Goshen was only able to retrieve one offensive rebound in the first half. Both teams opened up the offense after the halftime break, but the Pilgrims still outscored Goshen 37-28 in the second half.
Senior Night scoring was lead by sophomore Jake Reichard. Jake was able to drive at will against the Goshen defense and put up 18 points on the night. Senior Clay Hilliard was close behind with 17 points including 5-10 from the three point line. Hilliard also added five rebounds and five assists. Senior Cole Filson dropped 10 points on Goshen while senior Time Tremaine had a career high with eight points. Senior Bryce Carmichael also added a bucket for two points.
The Pilgrims finish the regular season with a 14-8 record heading into sectional play next week. They also finished 5-2 in the NLC which tied them for third place with Northridge. Elkhart Memorial and Warsaw tied for the NLC Championship at 6-1.
The Pilgrims open IHSAA Sectional play next Wednesday at Elkhart’s Northside Gym against….Goshen! The Pilgrims and RedHawks play the second game Wednesday night starting at approximately 7:45.
The JV Pilgrims also ended with a 38-33 win over Goshen. Braddy Hissong had 11 points and six rebounds to lead the Pilgrims. Owen Yoder added six assists. The JV Pilgrims ended their season with a 15-7 record.
