It was the tale of two halves Tuesday night at South Bend Riley High School as the Pilgrims fell to the Wildcats 73-55.

The Pilgrims started the non-conference game strong against the #7 rated 4A South Bend Riley.  It was tied 15-15 at the end of the first quarter.  The Pilgrims actually built a 27-19 lead four minutes into the second quarter.  Riley outscored the Pilgrims 8-2 over the final four minutes as the Pilgrims lead 29-27 at halftime.

The rest of the ball game belonged to the home team.  The Wildcats turned up the pressure and the Pilgrims wilted under that pressure.  The Wildcat defense caused the Pilgrim offense to commit 13 turnovers in the third quarter alone.  Riley outscored the Pilgrims 29-7 in the third quarter.  They lead the Pilgrims 56-36 at the end of three.

The fourth quarter was played evenly as both teams substituted freely over the final eight minutes.  The Pilgrims ended the contest with 19 turnovers.

Clay Hilliard lead the Pilgrims with 20 points but he also had five of the 19 team turnovers.  Jake Reichard added 12 and five rebounds.

The loss drops the Pilgrims to 4-3 on the year.  The Pilgrims will host the 1st Source Bank Holiday Tourney on Friday, 12/28/18 at The Rock.  The Pilgrims open play against Whitko at 10:30 AM followed by the Knox/Jimtown contest.  The consolation and championship games get underway at 6:15.

The JV Pilgrims picked up a victory in the preliminary contest against Riley 64-50.  Ivan Winkle lead the Pilgrims with 19 points, six rebounds, and five assists.  Adam Hunter added 17 points and five steals.  Grant Houin had 14 points and seven rebounds.  Joe Styers pulled down 10 rebounds and passed for six assists.

The win moves the JV Pilgrims to 6-1.  They will also play in the JV portion of the Holiday Tourney at 2:00 vs Whitko in the varsity gym.  Knox and Jimtown will also play at 2:00 in the Auxiliary Gym.  This will be followed by the Consolation and championship games at 3:30.
