Pilgrims News · BOYS BASKETBALL PREVIEW VS WINAMAC

The Plymouth Pilgrim Basketball team takes their show on the road tonight as they travel to Winamac to take on the Warriors.  JV start time is set for 6:15.

The Pilgrims enter the game with a 3-1 record.  They have defeated Glenn, New Prairie, and Triton.  The Pilgrims fell to South Bend Adams on the road last Friday night.  Tonight’s game will be the third road game of the season for the Pilgrims.

Winamac is a consolidation of Star City, Pulaski, and Winamac.  The Pilgrims never played against Star City or Pulaski.

The Pilgrims and Winamac were regular opponents against one another starting in the late 1930’s and into the 1949-1950 season.  During that 13 year stretch, the Pilgrims defeated the Indians (yes at that time they were nicknamed the Winamac Indians) nine of the 13 times they played one another.  The rivalry was renewed last year at The Rock with the Pilgrims winning 47-33.  The Pilgrims lead the all-time series against Winamac 10-4.

Senior Clay Hilliard is leading the Pilgrim attack after four games averaging 17 PPG.  Sophomore Jake Reichard is hitting for 13 PPG while senior Cole Filson is knocking down 11 PPG.

Winamac is 1-1 on the year.  They fell at Twin Lakes back on 11/20/18 57-51.  They earned their only victory of the year over Rochester on 11/30/18 58-43 at home.

Winamac returns their entire team this year as they had no seniors on their roster for the 17-18 season.  Senior Calvin Larkin leads the way.  The high-flying three point shooting ace averaged over 18 PPG last year as a junior.  Other players returning include junior Will Larkin (12 PPG last year), Senior Austin Brandt (8 PPG last year), and senior Sam Griffeth (6 PPG last year).

If you cannot attend tonight’s contest, AM1050 WTCA will be there to report the action.  They will be on the air at approximately 7:30.
