The Pilgrim baseball team top a huge step in securing at least a tie for the NLC Baseball Championship Monday night at Bill Nixon Field.  The Pilgrims took down NLC leader Northwood 3-0.  The win, coupled with a Goshen win vs Wawasee, puts three teams at the top of the NLC Standings with a 10-3 record.  Northwood, Goshen, and the Pilgrims are all tied with one game remaining.  Goshen hosts Northwood Wednesday night in a winner take all in their game.  The Pilgrims host Northridge Wednesday night.

The game was originally scheduled to be played at Northwood, but torrential rains Monday morning made their field unplayable, and the game was moved to Plymouth.  Northwood acted as the home team.

The Pilgrims got all the runs they needed in a two run second inning.  Jeremy Drudge lead off the inning with a single.  Jacob Deacon followed that with another single.  Jackson Lee laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt moving the runners to second and third with one out.  Freshman Matt Dobuck then sent a single to left field knocking in the first run.  The Northwood left fielder fielded the base hit promptly throwing it to an unoccupied third base allowing the second run to score.

Dobuck drove in an insurance run with a ground ball infield out in the sixth inning.  Payton Skirvin scored that run.

Cam Dennie started on the mound for the Pilgrims going three innings.  He allowed one hit and struck out one in his 33 pitch outing.  Cole Filson came in and got the win.  He was nearly perfect facing just thirteen hitters in his four innings striking out four and walking just one hitter in his 55 pitch outing.

The JV Pilgrims fell to Northwood 5-0.  Grant Houin went 4.2 innings on the mound giving up four earned runs on seven hits.  Ivan Winkle finished the contest on the mound for the Pilgrims.

Offensively the Pilgrims only had five hits on the night with no extra base hits.

The varsity Pilgrims host CMA tonight starting at 5:00, and then host Northridge on Wednesday in the NLC finale for 2018.
