The Plymouth Pilgrims made a quick exit in sectional play Wednesday night at Northside Gym in Elkhart. The Pilgrims fell to NLC rival Elkhart Memorial in the first game of the night 66-52.
The Pilgrims got off to a slow start Wednesday night in their match up. The Pilgrims trailed 15-8 after one quarter of play. The Pilgrims thought they had cut a seven point deficit at the end of one quarter down to a one point deficit at halftime but Memorial guard Jose Soto threw in a desperate three point shot at the buzzer, and Memorial lead 27-23 at halftime.
The Pilgrims continued to battle the Crimson Chargers. The Pilgrims tied the game at 41-41 near the end of the third quarter. They had a chance to take the lead as they had the ball with the game tied. The Pilgrims missed on their opportunity and Memorial scored and lead 43-41 after three quarters.
The fourth and final quarter belonged to Memorial as they outscored the Pilgrims 23-11 over the last eight minutes of the contest. The Pilgrims committed five of their 11 turnovers on the night in the final quarter.
Three Pilgrims hit for double figures on the night. Junior Clay Hilliard topped the Pilgrims with 15 points. Kadin McCrammer added 14 points while Garrett Tharp added 11 points and eight rebounds. Cole Filson pulled down six rebounds.
The Pilgrims say good-bye to four seniors that played their final game for The Big Red. Benji Nixon, Payton Skirvin, McCrammer, and Tharp all donned the red and white for the final time Wednesday night. They finished the year with a 13-10 record.
