The Plymouth Pilgrims boy’s basketball team continued their weekend road trip Saturday night as they headed to Mentone/Akron and the Land of the Tippecanoe Valley Vikings. The Pilgrims defeated Valley 62-35 to snap a five game losing streak.
The Pilgrims lead throughout the non-conference contest from start to finish. Their biggest lead occurred in the fourth quarter quarter at 56-27. The Pilgrims outscored Valley 40-20 in the second half.
The Pilgrims only lead 22-15 at halftime but a huge third quarter boosted the Pilgrims to their double digit lead heading into the final eight minutes leading 44-27. Garret Tharp put in nine points while teammate Clay Hilliard added seven points in the decisive third period.
Hilliard lead the Pilgrim attack with 21 points. Tharp added 15 points and five rebounds. Kadin McCrammer added nine rebounds and five assists while Brayson Leazenby pulled down six rebounds. The Pilgrims outmuscled Valley 33-18 in rebounding.
The win ups the Pilgrims to 6-6 on the year. Next up is another NLC contest at The Rock next Friday night as the Pilgrims host Concord. JV start time is scheduled for 6:15.
The JV Pilgrims defeated Tippy Valey 48-35. Thomas Dolan and Jake Reichard lead the Pilgrims with 13 points each. The win moves their record to 9-3 on the year.
