The Pilgrims battled the snow, wind, and cold Friday night on their trip to Northside Gymnasium in Elkhart Friday night but to no avail as they fell to Elkhart Memorial 53-47.

The Pilgrims got off to a great start in the NLC match-up at Northside gym.  They pitched a shutout 13-0 heading into the second quarter as Clay Hilliard hit for nine of the 13 Pilgrim points.  Garrett Tharp picked up the other four points in the opening quarter.

Memorial made a key substitution to open the second quarter as guard Jose Soto entered the game and made an immediate impact.  He hit for 16 points in the quarter.  Memorial converted a pair of free throws with 44 seconds remaining in the half to take their first lead of the game 21-20 which they maintained at halftime.

Memorial continued to assert themselves in the third quarter as they took a 36-31 lead into the fourth quarter.  Only two Pilgrims had scored as this point as Hilliard and Tharp had scored all the Pilgrim points.

That changed quickly to open the fourth quarter as Kadin McCrammer banked in a “3” to open the period.  But the Pilgrims continued their struggle as they fell behind 44-36 with five minutes remaining before Coach Ryan Bales called a timeout.  The Pilgrims would only get as close as six points over the final five minutes as they fell for the fifth game in a row.

Hilliard lead the Pilgrims with 18 points.  Tharp added 15 points and six rebounds.  McCrammer popped for 10 points.

The loss drops the Pilgrims to 0-2 in the NLC and 5-6 overall.  Next up is a trip to Tippecanoe Valley Saturday night.  JV tip-off is set for 6:15.

The JV Pilgrims lead Memorial at halftime 29-21 but could not maintain the lead as they fell to the Crimson Chargers  56-49.  Adam Hunter lead the Pilgrims with 13 points, five rebounds, and five assists.  Tim Tremaine and Jake Reichard each added 12 points while Thomas Dolan hauled down six rebounds.  The loss drops the JV Pilgrims to 1-1 in the NLC and 8-3 overall.
