The Plymouth Lady Rockie soccer team has had problems scoring goals this year. That was not the case Thursday night at Wawasee as the Rockies easily handled Wawasee 7-0.
Goalie Cece Robinson got the shutout for the Rockies as she stopped three shots on goal by Wawasee. This included one great save to preserve the shutout.
The Rockies opened their scoring quickly at Wawasee as Madison Smith took a Summer Smith pass and pounded by the Wawasee goalie just over two minutes into the game.
With five minutes remaining in the first half the Rockies increased their lead to 2-0 as Madison Stiles scored off a pass from Madison Smith.
14 minutes into the second half the Rockies got their third goal of the game. Lindsay Janus scored on a pass from Alicia Smith increasing the Rockie lead to 3-0.
The most exciting goal of the night occurred two minutes later as Abby Morales received the ball at midfield, dribbled the ball one on one against a Wawasee defender, and beat the Warrior goalie to increase the Rockie lead to 4-0.
The fifth goal was inadvertently kicked in by Wawasee at the 22 minute mark of the second half making it 5-0 Rockies.
Alicia Smith made a perfect corner kick to Madison Rose who headed into the back of the net for a 6-0 Rockie lead. Madison Smith picked up her second goal of the night with just over two minutes remaing in the contest to make the final 7-0.
The win moves the Rockies to 2-3-1 in the NLC and 4-5-4 overall on the season. Next up the Rockies travel to Valparaiso for a JV and Varsity contest. Note the time change as the JV contest will begin at 2:00 PM EST and will be played on their high school football field located at 2727 N. Campbell St. in Valparaiso.
