The Plymouth Pilgrims opened sectional play Wednesday night at Penn and defeated the South Bend Clay Colonials 49-46. Penn won Game 2 over SB Washington 67-56. This sets up a Plymouth/Penn rematch Friday night at The Palace. Game 1 will feature Mishawaka against South Bend Riley.
The Pilgrims trailed throughout the first half. They were down 11-6 after one quarter and 19-18 at halftime. Midway through the third quarter sophomore Nick Felke and junior Josh Anders executed a pick-and-roll played that turned into an Anders bucket and 1. He hit the free throw to complete the three point play which turned a one point deficit into a two point lead. The Pilgrims never trailed again even though Clay threatened until the final buzzer.
Anders lead the Pilgrims with 20 points and five rebounds. Felke added 13 points and five assists. Junior Cam Eveland contributed 10 points and five rebounds.
With the win, the Pilgrims move their record to 15-7 on the year heading into the semi-final game vs. Penn Friday night. Tip-off Friday night for Game 2 will be approximately 7:45. If you cannot be in attendance Friday night at Penn, WTCA AM1050 will cover the game. They will be on the air at approximately 7:15.
